An even bigger and better weekend is scheduled for the second annual Camden Classics Cup.

Some new additions this year include a one-design class of Sparkman & Stephens designed Dolphin 24s, a small boat fleet spearheaded by Alec Brainerd of Artisan Boatworks, and Youth Regatta.

The Camden Classics Cup Youth Regatta is specifically for racers 12-17 years of age, racing 420s on Friday, July 28.

This year, the Camden Classics Cup is proud to announce that they have joined Sailors for the Sea Clean Regatta Program at the Silver Level and the Camden Conservation Commission. Clean Regattas is a certification system that enables sailors to protect their local waters with 25 Best Practices that make sustainability approachable and easy.

The Scratch Sheet makes it apparent that CCC is on the calendars of classic, vintage, and Spirit of Tradition boat owners looking for the best sailing in New England, with 40 boats coming from far and wide to compete. Now in its second year, the event opens the classic yacht racing season in Maine and serves as the introduction to Camden Classics Week. The event format includes two days of CRF, Spirit of Tradition and PHRF racing followed appropriately with post-race celebrations.

Special events for the public have also been amplified. The Maine Maritime Parade of Sail is back — Saturday morning, at 10 a.m. The fleet of participants, which includes all Camden Classics Cup race boats, committee boats and elegant support boats, will parade through Camden Harbor along the waterfront in full dress ship.

The public is encouraged to watch the Maine Maritime Museum Parade of Sail from the town landing, or from Lyman-Morse at Wayfarer docks, or anywhere along the inner harbor. Harbormaster Steve Pixley and TV personality Erin Ovalle will provide commentary about each yacht. The broadcast can be heard from the town landing.

Tickets for the Saturday night dance party at the Camden Yacht Club are still available. The Jason Spooner Band will perform this year. Call 236-4378. Tickets are $60 per person and includes open bar, food and dancing. CCC regatta is capped off with fireworks over Curtis Island at 930 p.m.

The CCC regatta is scheduled for the weekend prior to the Eggemoggin Reach Regatta and is presented by Lyman-Morse Boatbuilding in conjunction with the Camden Yacht Club and with sponsorships from the following organizations: Commodore Sponsors: Stephens Waring Yacht Design and Allen Insurance & Financial. Partner Sponsors: Awlgrip, Bangor Savings Bank; Browne Trading Company; Camden National Bank; Maine Boats, Homes & Harbors, Points East; The Camden Herald and Wooden Boat Magazine. Marine Sponsors: 250 Main Hotel; Baxter Brewing Co.; Epifanes; James L. Gribbel and Stephen Roop at Morgan Stanley; Legacy Properties; Maine Today; Shipyard Brewing Company; and Teakdecking Systems. Local Sponsors: AGA Correa & Son; Camden Clothesline; Camden Real Estate; Camden Riverhouse Hotel; Ocean Navigator; PG Willey & Company; Sea Bags; Swans Island Blankets; Thompson Bowie, LLP; Weems & Plath and WRI Weather Routing. They all make the event a successful fundraiser for LifeFlight of Maine.

Serious trophies and awards will be presented Saturday night. Drew Lyman, President of Lyman-Morse will present The Cup of Tiffany sterling silver to the overall winner of the Vintage and Classic Classes. AGA Correa & Son and Sea Bags are supplying the class awards. Bob Stephens and Paul Waring of Stephens Waring Yacht Design will present the trophy to the winner of the Spirit of Tradition Class.

The Camden Classics Cup is followed by Camden Classics Week featuring a variety of maritime related events and destination racing to Castine, Brooklin and the outer islands, plus youth sailing and events. It all sets up a perfect week of racing, cruising, and camaraderie. The town of Camden and its businesses embrace the maritime theme with art displays, a classic car expo, lectures, music and film, plenty of youth events and fun for the entire family all centered on the waterfront of beautiful Camden.
