Red Barn Marketplace & Bakery, 2060 Atlantic Highway/Route 1, will host its first showcase of Maine artists and authors Saturday, July 22, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Authors Barbara Lawrence (“Ben's Story” “Islands of Time”) and K. Stephens (“The Ghost Trap”) are among Red Barn Baking Co.'s literary vendors and will be on hand to answer questions about the subculture of Maine's fishing communities and sign copies of their novels. Fine artists such as photographer Lorain K. Francis will have the stories behind their work; included is portrait artist Abe Goodale with watercolor paintings and postcards of Maine lobstermen.

Makers also will talk about their processes including Kris Brown, who creates colorful woven cotton bowls; Patti Young, who makes handmade Common Scents soap from goat milk; and crafters Lyndsay Tufo and Jeannie Delamarco, who make terra cotta pots with lobsters and flower decorations.

Maine Chefs' gourmet jams, salsa and sauces will offer samples as visitors browse the first and second floors of the barn. The Maine artists and authors will be surrounded by a vast array of antiques, furniture, collectables and jewelry, small housewares and more. The bakery's gourmet pastries and cookies will be available.
