The second in the summer concert series at the Rockville Community Chapel will feature the Hynd family, who perform everything from bluegrass to folk rock. Their family band Playin’ Possum will perform Friday, July 21, at 7 p.m. at the chapel, 87 Old Rockland St. (behind the Green Thumb).

Mom Gigi sings harmony and lead vocals and also plays the upright bass, while dad David sings most of the leads and plays acoustic guitar. Son Peter plays both acoustic and electric lead guitar and sings; his brother James is the drum player.

Playin’ Possum plays for many local events and often can be seen at the Quarry Tavern in Tenants Harbor. Their 90-minute performance will be filled with foot-stomping music. Suggested donation is $5.

This summer’s series continues Friday, Aug. 11, at 7 p.m. with local jazz combo Gardenia. The Rockville Community Chapel Association is a nonprofit organization dedicated to maintaining the one remaining public building in Rockville. The chapel has been completely renovated; but there is no heat, so use is limited to the summer months. The goal of the board of directors is to install a heating system, and net proceeds will be put toward this end. For more information, visit or the group’s Facebook page.
