The Points North Institute and the Camden Opera House continue their monthly CIFF Selects series with “The B-Side: Elsa Dorfman’s Portrait Photography” (2016, USA) Wednesday, July 19, at 7 p.m. at the downtown opera house.

Portrait photographer Elsa Dorfman found her medium in 1980: the larger-than-life Polaroid Land 20×24 camera. For the next 35 years, she captured the "surfaces" of those who visited her Cambridge, Mass., studio — families, Beat poets, rock stars and Harvard notables. As pictures begin to fade and her retirement looms, Dorfman gives filmmaker Errol Morris an inside tour of her backyard archive.

“We are thrilled to be collaborating with Maine Media Workshops + College on this CIFF Selects Screening,” said Ben Fowlie, executive drector of the Points North Institute. “Errol Morris’ work speaks for itself and we are honored to have this opportunity to share it with the community.”

This screening is co-presented with Maine Media Workshops + College and Camden Opera House. CIFF Selects screenings are held on the third Wednesday of each month, except for October; upcoming dates are Aug. 16, Sept. 20, Oct. 11 and Nov. 15. Q&As with filmmakers, either in person or via Skype, follow select screenings. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased on the day of show at the Camden Opera House box office; for more information, visit Gourmet popcorn is provided by The Vintage Room at 16 Bayview.
