The second author in Jackson Memorial Library’s 10th Summer Literary Series will be award-winning novelist and short story writer Ann Beattie appearing Tuesday, July 18. A part-time resident of Maine, Beattie has received numerous awards through the years including the 2005 Rea Award for the Short Story; and is included in Jennifer Egan’s “The Best American Short Stories 2014.”

The Summer Literary Series events take place at the Ocean View Grange, 435 Port Clyde Road/Route 131 and begin with a reception at 5:30 p.m. Beattie will be presenting her latest work, “The Accomplished Guest.”

Beattie is a member of the American Academy and Institute of Arts and Letters and was awarded the PEN/Malamud Award for excellence in the short story form. She has taught at Harvard College and the University of Connecticut; and currently teaches at the University of Virginia, where she is the Edgar Allan Poe Chair of the Department of English and Creative Writing. In 2005, she was selected as winner of the Rea Award for the Short Story, in recognition of her outstanding achievement in that genre.
