Ret Talbot, an award-winning science writer and photojournalist who covers fisheries, will give a talk about coral reefs and the fisheries that affect them Tuesday, July 11, at 6:30 p.m. at the Maine Coastal Islands NWR Visitor Center, 9 Water St.

Talbot's work has appeared in publications such as Discover Magazine, Mongabay and National Geographic. He lives in Rockland and is married to scientific illustrator Karen Talbot.

The emphasis of the talk will be on the developing island nations of the tropical Pacific Ocean and will provide the backstory on his photographs now showing in the Maine Coastal Islands Art Gallery. Talbot also will touch on some of the global issues that affect coral reef ecosystems and are more connected to Maine than most people realize.

Admission is by donation. For more information, call 594-0600, ext. 5.
