The 2017 edition of the Maine Coast Carving and Art Competition will take place the second weekend of July at the Belfast Boathouse, at the foot of Commercial Street on the harbor.

Sponsored by the Penobscot Bay Carvers and Artists Association, the show is in its 29th year and held in conjunction with Arts in the Park.  Saturday’s hours will be 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Sunday’s are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. There is no admission fee.  For more information, call 338-5309 or 789-5363.

Competitors must register their entries Friday, July 7, from noon to 6 p.m.; or on Saturday from 7 to 9 a.m. There are all levels of competition, and all types of carving are included. Artwork and photography must be of wildlife or coastal Maine scenery.

A raffle of two items donated by members of the club will be chosen on Sunday afternoon.  This year, the raffle items are a painting by Debbie Flood, of a pair of painted turtles; and a carving by Walter Simmons, of a restoration decoy. Tickets are $1 each or six for $5, available at the show.
