Our pet pick of the week is Bridget, a female boxer mix who came to us from our partner rescue, Mutts and Mittens Manor Rescue and Transport. This happy-go-lucky girl is around 8 years old. Her past of wandering the streets as a stray, underfed and uncared for is just where it should be, in the past, and she doesn't let any of that slow down her wiggly happiness!

Bridget is a very affectionate girl who loves people. Nothing makes her happier than spending time with someone and getting attention. She is a favorite amongst our dog-walking volunteers and has done well learning how to walk on a leash. She is great with kids, but would prefer a home without any cats or smaller dogs. Call us at 594-2200 or stop in to learn more about this beautiful brindle gal.

For our feline fanciers out there, don't forget its National Adopt a Cat month and we are celebrating by lowering our adoption fees on adult cats to just $20 through the end of the month. All adoptions include spay/neuter surgery, age-appropriate vaccinations, testing, flea treatment, de-worming and a free medical exam from a participating veterinarian. With more than 100 cats and kittens at the shelter and in foster care, we are sure to have the perfect feline companion to fit your family.

Is your pet microchipped? In tandem with a collar and ID tag, a microchip is an important tool in getting your pets home should they become lost. PMHS staff will be on hand at Loyal Biscuit Co. in Rockland Saturday June, 24, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. to microchip your dog or cat. It's quick, easy and only $25. No appointment is necessary. Dogs must be on a leash and cats in a carrier. Give yourself some peace of mind and your lost pet a ticket home. Have your pet wear a collar and current ID and get them microchipped.

If you can't make it on Saturday, the shelter offers microchipping for the same price during regular business hours. We also have a Pet ID tag engraving machine. Choose from a selection of colorful ID tags of different shapes and sizes and engrave all your pet's important contact information on it with our double-sided engraving for just $7.

Save the date: Join the Rockin' band Raiza Red for the Give Me Shelter Rock n' Roll Fundraiser to benefit Pope Memorial Humane Society Saturday, July 1. A $10 donation at the door goes toward helping homeless animals in your community. There will be a cash bar and refreshments available. For more information, contact Anna Adams at 594-2200
