This year's Mr. and Mrs. 4th of July are town residents Coby Dorr and Meredith Mitchell. Both are just-graduated seniors from Oceanside High School, and were chosen by the faculty based on their grades, activities, leadership, community involvement, and positive outlook.

Mitchell is the daughter of Denise and Peter Mitchell. Her high school activities included playing soccer, indoor track and tennis. She was actively involved with Trekkers, including the Trekkers student leadership program and Big Trek Little Trek, and volunteered with the Thomaston Recreation Department’s youth soccer clinics. She is a member of the National Honor Society and graduated with honors. Mitchell will be working at McLoon’s Lobster Shack and the Farnsworth Art Museum during the summer. She will attend Saint Anselm College in New Hampshire in the fall.

Dorr is the son of Ann and Rene Dorr. His high school activities included playing varsity soccer all four years, varsity baseball for three years and varsity basketball for two years. Dorr has been involved in the Oceanside Theater, including "Tarzan," "Mulan" and "Nuggets." He is also a member of the National Honor Society and graduated with honors. Dorr will be working this summer with the Thomaston Recreation Department, assisting with the day camp. He will be attend Husson University to study physical therapy in the fall.

Mitchell and Dorr will ride in the 2017 Thomaston 4th of July parade, which starts at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 4. The parade will travel from north to south on Main Street, beginning at Erin Street and ending on Booker Street. The parade will be followed by a full day of activities, including a road race, craft tent, chicken barbeque, live music, free bouncy houses, a hotdog-eating contest, food vendors, and the traditional fireworks display at 9:15 p.m. Rain/fog date for the fireworks is July 5.
