Karen Olson will lead a Celebrate Summer! Lifestyle and Still Life Photography Workshop Saturday, June 24, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at The Art Loft, the downtown nonprofit arts center at 385 Main St., Suite 9 (lobby level of Thorndike building).

Still life photography is about more than fruits, flowers and styling; today, still life photography is mindfulness, playfulness and, yes, stillness. It is a medium that encourages the creative process, that leads artists to a place of emotional healing and growth.

The day will begin with coffee and conversation, a discussion on seeing the artist within, pushing past the inner critic and discovering a sense of possibility. Then participants will dive in — soft and dreamy, dark and moody, backlight, sidelight, working with local fruits and flowers. Camera settings and lighting, as well as composition, will be discussed.

Late afternoon, the workshop will head out to Olson's home and gardens in Hope for flower photography and nature-inspired lifestyle photography with a model.

Registration closes Monday, June 20. Cost is $125. For more information, email Olson at renukostyle@gmail.com or visit renukostyle.com. To register, call 200-7915 or visit artloftrockland.org.
