Our pet pick of the week is Crunch, a handsome adult male Tuxedo cat. Crunch came to us as a stray from Rockland. All dressed up and nowhere to go, this dapper Tuxedo cat is looking for a home to call his own.

Crunch likes his fellow felines, but when it comes to dogs and kids, he prefers them supersized, much like himself. And while he doesn't really like to be picked up, this big boy can be quite the charmer when he gets to know you. Stop by the shelter and visit with Crunch in our cat meet-and-greet room and see for yourself what a good kitty he is. Crunch is just one of nearly 100 cats currently at the shelter or in foster care. If he isn't the purrfect match, then we're sure we have someone who is.

Join us Saturday, June 10, from 1 to 3 p.m. for the dedication of our new mural, thanks to the students of Arts in Action, a program offered by RSU 13 Adult & Community Education to create opportunities for youth artists to showcase and share their talents in actionable ways by partnering in fine arts education with community arts and service learning projects. The students have been working all year on this beautiful shelter-themed art piece. The dedication and celebration will include a slide show presentation, meet and greet with the young artists and light refreshments.

While you're at the shelter, you should check out our new Art Wall, an area off the lobby created for artists to exhibit and sell their work, with a percentage donated back to the shelter. The inaugural exhibition features thework of Anna B.McCoy, whose work is shown courtesy of the Dowling Walsh Gallery of Rockland. Her work will be on display for the month of June. Artists who are interested in exhibiting their work and supporting the shelter and would like more information, should leave their name and contact information with a staff member and a representative of the shelter will be in touch.

Would you like to make a difference for animals in need? We could use your help. We are always looking for dedicated volunteers to help us care for the animals and the facility! Our next volunteer orientation is scheduled for Saturday, June 10, at 11 a.m. If you are interested in coming to volunteer with us, contact Volunteer Coordinator Kelly Gould to learn more and RSVP at volunteers@hskcme.org or 594-2200.

Wish list: copy paper, laundry detergent, wet dog and cat food, garbage bags, zip loc bags (quart and gallon) and gift certificates to Walmart, Staples, Amazon and other local businesses are a great help. Thanks for your support.
