Frieda Hanlon will lead a special Paint Night Event — Paint the Sky! — Friday, June 16, from 6 to 8 p.m. at The Art Loft, the downtown nonprofit arts center at 385 Main St., Suite 9 (lobby level of Thorndike building).

Painting the sky has fascinated mankind since cave painting days. In this workshop, participants will take easy-to-work-with everyday materials to create dramatic but simple-to-produce renditions of the sky. Hanlon will guide attendees in creating unusual effects within the acrylic medium, applying paints with brush, palette knives, brayers, credit cards and anything else people think.

Participants will start with some practice paper and finish with a piece worthy of framing. The activity is suitable for age 10 to adult. Cost is $35, which includes all materials. Snacks will be provided; feel free to BYOB.

On Saturday, June 17, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., Art Loft co-founder will instruct Understanding Camera Settings Part 2 for those who have taken her DRSL Camera Settings 101 or have a basic knowledge of how to change all the settings on their cameras. Participants will dive a little deeper into these settings, discuss common shooting problems and how to conquer them. There will be some hands-on practice. Cost is $40.
