Camden Rotary will dedicate its fundraising efforts for this year’s Fourth of July Music by the Sea concerts to the memory of Parker S. Laite Sr.

For more than 25 years, the club has hosted summer concerts in celebration of Independence Day. Local businesses, individuals and club members have supported the concert through generous giving.

The generosity of concert sponsors has enabled the club to increase its contributions to local charitable organizations. Recipients of the club’s grants in past years have included Midcoast Hospitality House, the Bay Chamber Music School, Coastal Children's Museum, Penobscot Bay YMCA, Mid-Coast Health Net, the Camden-Rockport Historical Society and many other local nonprofits.

The club also provides annual support for many youth-related programs including the Midcoast Interact Club, Five Town Little League Baseball, and a Rotary Youth Leadership Award and academic scholarships.

Parker Laite, who died last year, was devoted to local causes and belonged to the Camden Rotary Club for more than 30 years. He was honored in 1994 as Rockport-Camden-Lincolnville Chamber of Commerce’s Townsperson of the Year. In 2007, Camden’s Annual Town Report was dedicated to him for his service to the community.

The club’s largest grant this year — a $10,000 contribution to the Midcoast Recovery Coalition — will be named the Parker S. Laite Sr. Memorial Award. Additional grants will go to Sixty-Three Washington Street, a residence for seniors; MCH Meals on Wheels; the Camden Public Library; and the Area Interfaith Outreach food pantry.

Club members have always made major financial contributions to Music by The Sea and have shown particularly strong support this year in honor of Parker. Together with his immediate family, the club invites others to support this year’s concert by mailing their donations (marked “Music by the Sea – Parker Laite) to Camden Rotary Club, PO Box 602, Camden, ME 04843.
