The Rockland Harbor YMCA announced Wednesday, June 7, it met its fundraising goal to offer summer hours at the Flanagan Community Center in Rockland.

The hours of operation, beginning June 19, will be Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Open gymnasium time, weight room and game room time will be available to the community.

"Along with offering a safe place for children to come and enjoy the facility, the building will also be the home of our new KinderKamp, which provides a summer camp for children entering and exiting kindergarten," the YMCA stated in its news release.

In addition, the Y and the Flanagan Community Center will also host numerous sports camps throughout the summer, including the Mid-Coast Basketball  Camp (June 19 through 22). This camp will be a co-ed program for players ranging from kindergarten to eighth grade and will be run by Coach Breen, his staff, and players.

Mid-Coast Girls Basketball camp (July 24 through 27), for girls ranging from third to eighth grade will be run by the varsity coaching staff of both Oceanside High School and Camden Hills Regional High School. Wrapping up the YMCA’s basketball offerings for the summer is the Teer Basketball Training Program (Aug. 1 through 4). This camp is also co-ed and is being offered to athletes ranging from fourth grade to 12th grade.  Outside of the building, the YMCA will be partnering with the Dutch Soccer Academy to offer a camp from Aug. 14 through 18.  This camp is co-ed and will be offered to students from kindergarten to sixth grade. Registration for all these programs can be completed by contacting the YMCA at 594-0321 or by visiting any Y location.

The YMCA was able to raise financial support to open this facility during the summer through numerous donations from individuals and businesses in the community. This effort included a $5,000 donation from the Bangor Savings Bank Foundation’s Community Matters More, and community members led by YMCA volunteers Dan Bookham and Nancy Jeffers helped raise the remaining needed funds.
