What’s your vision of dog-owning bliss? Trips to the beach? Hiking in the mountains? A loyal companion gently snoring at your feet? Chances are, whatever you’re looking for, P.A.W.S. has the perfect dog for you.

Toby would be just right for someone who lives a quiet life and wants a smaller dog. He’s a Pappillon-Chihuahua mix whose life so far has been anything but ideal. Hard as it is for most of us to imagine, there are people out there who sometimes hit or kick their pets; and sadly, Toby’s owner was one of those. His relationship with that owner ended with being thrown out of car and over the fence of a dog park — and then watching the person, who should have loved him, drive away. So it’s not surprising that he has trust issues with strangers, does not like to be touched on his head, and occasionally nips when he feels threatened. But inside Toby’s tiny, 10-pound frame beats a resilient heart. Once he knows you and finds you’re not out to hurt him, his naturally affectionate nature shines. We think Toby will do best in a peaceful, predictable household, with someone who won’t try to take him places where he would have to deal with strangers. Are you that person? Please drop by our location on 123 John St. and let us introduce you.

Of course, Toby is just one of numerous wonderful dogs currently waiting at P.A.W.S. for a new “leash” on life, along with many eminently adoptable cats and kittens. On the other hand, if you can't adopt but would like to help in other ways, please check our website pawsadoption.org for opportunities to donate or volunteer. A love of animals and a one-time volunteer-orientation session are all you need to get started. For questions or concerns, you can give us a call at 236-8702.
