MidCoast Detachment 637 of the Marine Corps League will hold its 26th annual SOS Breakfast Saturday, June 3, from 7:30 to 10 a.m. (or until the food runs out) at the American Legion Hall, located at 91 Pearl St.

SOS is an acronym for a well-known breakfast entree familiar to anyone that has ever served in the armed forces. In addition to SOS, the menu will include scrambled eggs, toast, sausages and home fries along with orange juice and coffee.

The breakfast is open to all veterans and their guests. All proceeds from the event are donated to veteran causes such as House in the Woods, The Travis Mills Foundation, Wounded Heroes Program of Maine, Maine Veteran's Homes, and AIO Food Pantry.

"There is no cost to attend the breakfast, but donations are encouraged to help defray the cost of supplies and to allow us to support veterans here in Maine," said Fred Beerman, commandant of the local detachment.

The Marine Corps League is a non-profit organization founded in 1923. It is the only federally chartered Marine Corps-related veteran's organization in the United States. Membership is made up of U.S. Marines and U.S. Navy Corpsmen that have served with the Fleet Marine Forces and have received an honorable discharge, still on active duty, or are reservists. The MidCoast Detachment received its charter in 1987. Monthly meetings are held at 7 p.m. on the second Tuesdays of each month at the Coast Guard Station in Rockland.
