Daile Kaplan will present her “Pop Photographica,” a collection of three-dimensional photo objects, Friday, June 2, at 7 p.m. at the Rockport Opera House, 6 Central St. This free event is open to everyone and is put on by Maine Media Workshops and Rockport Public Library.

Photography is a jubilant and disparate mix of every conceivable combination of elements: high and low art; finery and kitsch; private memories and public displays; truth and illusion; status symbols and humble means; artistic aspirations and commerce; and the hand-made versus the mechanical, with photography playing a central role in all.

This series of seemingly endless contradictions is brilliantly expressed in Kaplan’s comprehensive collection. Kaplan is vice president and director of Photographs and Photobooks at Swann Auction Galleries, New York City's oldest specialist auction house. She also has been a commentator on the History Channel, Discovery Channel and HG-TV; and is a photographs specialist on PBS’s “Antiques Roadshow.” She will have copies of her recently published book, "Image Objects: Pop Photographica in Everyday Life," for sale.
