Window Dressers, the nonprofit organization making low-cost interior inserts to cut down on drafts and save energy, is once again busy all over the state, measuring windows for more than 6,000 inserts to be made and delivered this fall.

The organization is still accepting orders on its website,, or by phone. The reason Window Dressers' inserts are so inexpensive is that there is no labor charge in the cost: the labor is provided by volunteers in the 20-plus communities where the inserts are ordered and finished. The group also provides inserts at no charge to 23 percent of its customers who are unable to pay more than a small donation.

While Window Dressers' base is in Rockland, it is more convenient for most volunteers to help out in their own communities. This year, the St George Grange on Wileys Corner Road will  help to coordinate a community build in its recently updated meeting room.

The St George Community Build will happen at the end of October, but Window Dressers asks that people sign up now so it can make appointments at individual homes, to complete measuring next month.
