Green Lion Gallery, 104 Front St., will hold an opening reception Friday, May 19,from 5 to 7 p.m. for the new collagraph prints of Rockport artist Kathleen Buchanan.

In its stark simplicity, Buchanan’s work gracefully and powerfully evokes the spirit of the Maine landscape — the rugged coastline, gentle farmlands and the birds and animals that inhabit such places.  In addition to being an accomplished artist, Buchanan was trained as a wildlife biologist and brings the experience and insights of scientific observation to her artistic engagement with the world around her.

“I am constantly inspired by the area where I live,” said Buchanan. “The coast of Maine always reinvents itself with ever-changing ocean and sky, and seasons which each have grace and character all their own.”

The reception includes light refreshments, live music and an opportunity to meet the artist. For a sneak peek at the work and more information about Buchanan and other artists, visit and check out the Green Lion Gallery’s Facebook page.
