On Mother's Day, Sunday, May 14, the Sanctuary Gallery at Rockland Congregational Church will welcome the artistry of Linda Simmons-Arnold of Cushing. A reception will take place from 11:15 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.; the show will hang until June 9.

Simmons-Arnold and her husband moved to the area from Vermont two years ago, where she had worked for 42 years in the bioscience field. During that time, she also attended the New England School of Art and Mass Art to explore her artistic talents.

“I retired in 2012 and have devoted myself to painting ever since,” she said.

Simmons-Arnold works in different media and characterizes her work as “impressionistic and colourist in style.” This her second show in the Rockland area.

The Rockland Congregational Church is located at 180 Limerock St., and the gallery is easily accessible on the second level. Hours are Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.; and Fridays from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

John Wood's “Portraits: Human and Otherwise” has been extended to Tuesday, May 9.
