River Arts on Route 1 invites the public to the opening reception for its newest exhibition, “Artists’ Choice,” Friday, May 5, from 5 to 7 p.m.

Charlotte Davenhill, curator and owner of the Tidemark Gallery in Waldoboro, selected nearly 140 works by 90 artists from all over Maine to create an exhibition that includes encaustic, sculpture, photography, collage, painting, ceramics, fine craft and assemblage.

Midcoast artists with work in the juried show include Jean Byrd, Amy Cornell, Larry Kinney and Leecia Price of Camden; Jim Nyce of Cushing; Petrea Noyes of Lincolnville; Leslie Woods of Montville; Kathi Peters of Morrill; Paula Apro, Roberta Baumann, Colleen Gleason and Jeanette Phillipps of Rockland; Joyanna Bernardo of Rockport; Sandi Cirillo of Searsport; Dianne Horton of Swanville; Geoff Bladon of Tenants Harbor; Sandra Hilt, Jannetta Jennings, Heidi Locke and Linda Shepard of Union; Marie Bickford of West Rockport; Sherry Dec, Valerie Greene, Jean Kigel, Neil Shively and Joyce Steel of Waldoboro; Wolfgang Busse and Polly McGrory of Warren; and Tania Amazeen-Jones of Washington.

Also opening, in the West Gallery, is a show of work by fiber artist Cathie Stebbins Peterson and woodworker Kemal Lowenthal.

The exhibition, one of River Arts’ 10 themed, open, juried exhibitions each year, will run through June 2.
