The Camden Opera House, along with Camden Winterfest and the U.S. National Toboggan Championships, will present C.J. Chenier and the Red Hot Louisiana Band Thursday, Feb. 9, at 7 p.m. at the downtown opera house. NOTE: POSTPONED TO MARCH 3; SEE LINK BELOW FOR DETAILS!

Last year, Chenier and his band rocked the house and had almost everyone in attendance on their feet, enjoying one of the finest living zydeco musicians today. C.J., son of late Zydeco King Clifton Chenier, is a Grammy-nominated, world-renowned musician and recording artist who has shared stages with Paul Simon, John Mayall, Joe Sample and the Gin Blossoms, to name a few.

Chenier’s distinctive brand of zydeco mixes in blues and R&B for a music style that is fun for all ages. His band features a number of talented musicians including Clifford Alexander, the best washboard player ever to "scrub the sheets." C.J. was a close friend of Buckwheat Zydeco, and they jammed together often. Since Buckwheat died last year, C.J. has been in ever more demand as one of the last greats.

Tickets for the C.J. Chenier and the Red Hot Louisiana Band concert are $20 in advance and will be $24 at the door. Advance tickets are available at camdenoperahouse.com; at 536-5850; and for no-fee weekdays between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. at the Camden Town Office.

The box office opens show night at 6:30 p.m. and the auditorium doors at 7 p.m. Fireside Restaurant and Lounge of Camden will be set up in the Tucker Room of the opera house to serve gourmet pizza, craft beer and wines to ticketholders.

This concert kicks off the National Toboggan Championships weekend and is part of nine days of festivities dubbed the Mardi Gras of Maine. For the complete Camden Winterfest schedule, visit camdenwinterfest.com or the Facebook page.
