Residents of District 92 chose Democrat John Spear over Republican Sonja Sleeper, to replace term-limited incumbent Chuck Kruger, D-Thomaston. Both candidates are from South Thomaston.

"I'm very pleased," Spear said after learning he had won the race. "I'm glad that both Sonja and I ran what I considered a positive campaign."

Spear is retired, with more than 20 years of experience in municipal government in New England. He came to Maine in 1990 to work as town manager of Vinalhaven and stayed, working as town manager in Waldoboro, business manager for the former MSAD 50, and serving as a selectman in South Thomaston, among other positions.

Spear said, if elected, his top priorities in the Legislature would be to expand access to high quality, affordable health care; lower property taxes and coax part-time residents into making the state their primary home so they pay into local services; and protect Maine’s environment.
