Page to Stage Pipeline, a group to develop new plays, will present a staged reading of “Race to the Bottom” by playwright Laura Emack of Prospect Thursday, Nov. 10, in the Talbot Lecture Hall, located in Luther Bonney Hall, 85 Bedford St., on the University of Southern Maine’s campus.

The cast includes Portland actor Jackie Oliveri; Waldoboro actors Mike and Beth Rowe; and four USM students, under the direction of Professor Assunta Kent.

“Race to the Bottom” vividly depicts today’s dodgy economy, where mature workers get fired and their young replacements go to work for half their predecessors’ compensation. The program will run from 7 to 9:15 p.m. including an audience talkback. As this will be the first reading of a new script, the playwright welcomes all input.

Emack’s work has been produced in New York City and in Maine by Husson University Theatre (Bangor), Midcoast Actors’ Studio (Belfast), Acorn Productions (Portland) in the Maine Playwrights Festival and as part of Snowlion Repertory Co.’s food-themed “The Maine Dish,” performed at the Portland Ballet Studio Theater in 2015.

Page to Stage Pipeline is free and open to the public. For additional information, contact Assunta@maine.edu or call 780-5147.
