Erika Bjorum and Kendra Denny will co-teach a five-week class titled "Making Friends with Yourself," at the Dancing Elephant, 16 School St., Tuesday eveinings beginning Nov. 15, from 6 to 8 p.m. It is open to the public by donation. The class will explore the benefits of meditation and mindfulness in everyday life.

The study group will explore the teachings of Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche, as presented in the recent release "Mindfulness in Action: Making Friends with Yourself through Meditation and Everyday Awareness." The class is experiential and interactive, including meditation instruction, group practice, short talks and discussion.

The group will investigate the benefits of a mindfulness practice, including simple self-acceptance and clear engagement in the world. The course is open to new and experienced practitioners alike. The suggested donation is $75. Donations in any amount are appreciated. Books will be available for purchase at the class.

Bjorum has been a Shambhala meditation practitioner since 2006. She studied at Shambhala centers in Alaska and Maine. Bjorum is a trained Shambhala Guide. Denny has been practicing meditation and studying Buddhism since 1999. She helps to coordinate meditation programs at The Dancing Elephant.
