FairPoint Communications announced Oct. 20 it has installed new equipment in Liberty, Montville, Searsmont and Washington, bringing faster broadband speeds to more than 130 locations. As a result, businesses and residents now have access to speeds of up to 50 Mbps for downloading data and up to 20 Mbps for uploading.

“Internet access has transformed the way we live, and that is even more evident in rural states like Maine,” said Mike Reed, FairPoint’s Maine state president. “For businesses, internet access means faster connections to customers and suppliers that can make the world their marketplace, while families gain access to entertainment, shopping and educational resources that were once truly a world away.”

FairPoint's investment brings a range of broadband speed options to these communities and, depending on the customer’s distance from the upgraded equipment, some customers can qualify for up to a 50 Mbps download speed and up to a 20 Mbps upload speed. Building a robust and versatile network across the region is crucial to handling the increasing demands for bandwidth, Reed said.

For FairPoint customers, the upgrades provide an opportunity to email photos more quickly, download music, stream videos, and surf the internet.

In Liberty, portions of the following streets have been upgraded: Collinstown Road, Gove Road, Heart and Hand Lane, Lily Cove, McLain Road, Prescott Hill Road, Steeves Way, Stevens Pond Road and W. Main Street.

In Montville, FairPoint has upgraded portions of the following streets: Cemetery Road, Choate Road, Cram Road, Jackson Road, S. Trotting Park Road, Stevens Pond Road, Wagner Road and Woodmans Mill Road.

In Searsmont, portions of Cemetery Road, Jackson Road, Peters Road, W. Appleton Road and Woodmans Mill Road have been upgraded.

Portions of the following streets in Washington have been upgraded: Allen Lane, Crystal Lake Road, Gee Lane, Green Gables Lane, Mountain Road, Old County Road, Prescott Road and Youngs Hill Road.

Since April 2008, FairPoint has invested more than $900 million in its communications infrastructure and technology to bring broadband to northern New England, including building thousands of miles of new fiber-optic network across the region. FairPoint’s fiber-based, high capacity network offers customers a better, faster way to communicate.
