We have a full house at the Pope Memorial Humane Society, with a couple dozen dogs and three times as many cats awaiting their new homes.

But did you know we also provide shelter and a second chance to other small animals?. Currently, we have rabbits, birds, guinea pigs, and even a friendly white rat named Zenny looking for a family.

Do you need some bunny to love? Our pet picks of the week are Giovanni and Cuddle Bug, two sweet rabbits ready to hop into someone's life. Giovanni is an adorable, super-soft 5 1/2-year-old rabbit. He is a little shy at first, but loves attention. He is used to being an inside rabbit and was fine living with other rabbits and friendly, respectful cats. Giovanni recently lost a leg due to an infection, but he healed quickly and it doesn't seem to slow the little guy down at all. Cuddle Bug is a 3-year-old beauty who is very friendly and active. She spent a lot of time outside, but would love to be part of the family inside the house too.

Rabbits can be very social and friendly, but they can also be temperamental and skittish, so may not be the best pets for young, exuberant children who are eager to pick up and cuddle their new furry friend. Pet rabbits and their quirky personalities are adored by many. If you can make the commitment to the care of these intriguing furry critters, stop in and speak with a staff member and meet Giovanni and Cuddle Bug. They may be just what you're looking for.

Are you a movie fan? Have we got a deal for you. To raise funds to provide care for all the animals at the shelter, we are selling an amazing coupon book to Flagship Cinema. For only $25 you get $200 worth of savings: free tickets, free popcorn, BOGOs etc. It's a great little fundraiser for us and a great deal for you, so stop by, pick up your coupon booklet and enjoy the movies while helping homeless animals. They make great gifts. There's a limited supply, so hurry in to the shelter to buy your booklet today.

Did you know that pets can get pregnant as young as 4 months old? Our Spay & Neuter program provides financial assistance to pet owners from the 20 communities we serve for the cost of spaying or neutering surgeries for their pets to help stop unwanted litters. If you need assistance in getting your pet "fixed," contact the shelter at 594-2200 and speak with a staff member to receive a voucher to help defray the cost of the surgery. If you'd like to support this program with a gift, visit our website at hskcme.org or send a check to PMHS, P.O. Box 1294, Rockland, ME 04841 with "Spay/Neuter" in the memo line.

Wish list: Canned dog food, canned cat food, paper towels, large black garbage bags, hand soap, laundry detergent. Gift certificates to Wal-Mart, Staples, Amazon and other local businesses are also a great help. Thanks for your support.
