The Pen Bay Medical Center Pharmacy has recently expanded its services to include the administration of immunizations to the Midcoast community. Patients can now receive lifesaving immunizations from an experienced pharmacist at Pen Bay Medical Center.

Maine allows pharmacists to administer any adult vaccinations when provided with a prescription by the patient’s health care provider (doctor, nurse practitioner, etc). The most common immunizations that will likely be administered are Zostavax (shingles), Pneumovax 23 (pneumonia), Prevnar 13 (pneumonia) and Fluzone (influenza).

Pen Bay Medical Center Pharmacy now has the flu vaccine available for those with a prescription from their health care provider. Call the pharmacy to make sure a certified pharmacist is available to administer the vaccine before coming in.

The influenza vaccination may be administered by a pharmacist to patients as young as 7 years of age.

Most insurance companies will cover the cost of the immunization and the administration. To determine if their insurance will cover the cost of the immunization and administration, patients should request a prescription be sent to the pharmacy by their provider and the pharmacy can run a test claim through their insurance.

The Pen Bay Medical Center Pharmacy offers other services, including prescription medications, over-the-counter medications and medical counseling.

Pen Bay Medical Center Pharmacy hours are 7 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. seven days a week. The pharmacy is open on weekends and holidays. The phone number is 921-8585.
