River Arts Gallery on Route 1 will feature Anne Cronin’s watercolor landscapes and flowers in its West Gallery, concurrent with the juried “Artists’ Choice” group showing the main gallery. Opening reception for both shows will be Friday, Oct. 14, from 5 to 7 p.m.

Cronin is a native of Maine and lives in Belfast. She received her degree in art and design at the Cambridge School of Design and has painted the landscapes and gardens of Maine and Southern California, where she has spent winters. Her watercolor paintings and ink drawings of land and seascapes have been widely shown.

Cronin was among a group of artists who participated in the Midcoast Stroke Support Group show last fall at Camden Public Library. An inspiration to her friends and fellow artists, she has continued to paint and draw since her stroke in 2009, further developing as an artist and finding inspiration in the natural world around her.

“I try to capture the beauty and character of nature by creating paintings and drawings that show the softness and tranquility of the world,” she said. “Using the medium of watercolor, I can create more of an impression of a scene than of exacting detail, and use its natural flow to help build the completed work.”

Cronin will be showing original watercolors, framed giclée prints and a collection of prints and notecards. She is a member of River Arts Gallery and The Lupine Cottage Artist Coop in Belfast; and a former member of Belfast’s Art Alliance and Rockland’s Art Space. Her watercolors also will be shown at the Lighthouse Gallery in Bucksport in November.

The solo show will run through Oct. 26. For more information, call 542-2665 contact the artist at annecroninartmaine@gmail.com. River Arts Gallery is open Tuesdays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
