The October calendar continues to fill at the Art Loft, located at 385 Main St., Suite 9 (inside the lobby of the Thorndike Building).

New to the nonprofit community art center’s offerings is Lunch Hour at the Loft, a free art class Wednesdays from noon to 1 p.m. The Art Loft invites those who wish they had just a little more time to pursue their artistic passion to bring their lunches and art projects. Those who do not have a current project will be offered one — from painting and drawing to mixed media and collage, everyone is invited to come for conversation and creative encouragement … and to find out what just and hour of creativity can do for the soul.

On Friday, Oct. 14, the Art Loft will hold another Paint Night from 6 to 8 p.m., a fun evening of painting and socializing. Sean Boyd will guide participants step-by-step through painting a colorful fall image of white birch trees. No painting experience is required. Cost for the two-hour Paint Night is $35, with all supplies and snacks included (feel free to bring snacks, as well).

On Saturday, Oct. 15, from 1 to 4 p.m., Greg Smith will lead a Touch, Awareness, and Healing workshop to explore the science, art and healing aspects of touch through both lecture and experiential activities. The afternoon will examine how interpersonal touch can convey meaning, has been shown to be very important for overall health and is effective for reducing feelings of stress. Presence in Healing — holistic bodywork using touch, movement and awareness to facilitate healing — will be introduced and utilized. Cost for the afternoon workshop is $25.

The Art Loft also offers low-cost drop-in art classes, more in-depth ongoing classes, restorative art therapy and other special events. For more information and to register for Paint Night or the workshop, visit or email
