Art Space Gallery, 342 Main St., invites everyone to enjoy the October Arts in Rockland First Friday Art Walk Oct. 7 from 5 to 8 p.m. A new show will be hanging in the front room, and art walkers are encouraged to stop by and join the artists for wine and refreshments. This reception will feature the work of Judith Herman, Ann Rhinehardt, Jessie Perkins and Adam Perkins.

Herman has been working in watercolor for more than 30 years. Currently, she is capturing the light and color of the flowers from her garden and her award-winning florals will be on exhibit.

Working in encaustic, a beeswax-based medium, Rhinehardt seeks to express her deep connection to nature in all its forms, developing her paintings layer by layer. She uses mostly transparent pigments, inviting her viewers to peek through the many layers of beeswax and share in her painting process.

Perkins has been creating animal and people portraits professionally for nearly 10 years, using photo references in order to get every detail correct. She offers a variety of original paintings, drawings, giclée prints and cards; at Art Space, her nature and wildlife portraits will be on display.

Perkins is an oil painter whose focus is on industrial scenes and traditional landscapes, taking places that are often overlooked and transforming them. He has a strong focus on design, and his cleanly detailed paintings have been referred to as "air brushing with oil."

Art Space Gallery is located across from the Strand Theatre and features works by 19 artists who work in various media and genres. October hours are Mondays through Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sundays from 1 to 5 p.m. through Oct. 15; Wednesdays through Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. thereafter.
