Knox-Lincoln Soil & Water Conservation District has openings for two elected positions and one appointed position on its five-member Board of Supervisors — one three-year term and one two-year term.

The three-year term of one of our appointed supervisors ends in 2016 as well. Knox-Lincoln SWCD Board of Supervisors may submit up to three names of interested individuals to the Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry, which then chooses the appointee.

Those interested in running for the office of supervisor or being considered for an appointed position must be resident, registered voters within the boundaries of the Knox-Lincoln Soil & Water Conservation District. Candidates need have only an interest in conservation and a willingness to, at a minimum, participate in a monthly board meeting at the district office.

Interested persons must submit nomination papers or a completed appointee form no later than Oct. 28. Balloting will be held from Oct. 31 to Nov. 16. Nominees will be announced in the local press and on the district website, knox-lincoln.org.

In addition, the board welcomes associate supervisors, non-voting members appointed by the board, who may have an interest in the general activities of the district or a specific area of interest or expertise that they would like to share.

The mission of Knox-Lincoln SWCD is to provide assistance in conservation of land and water resources through proactive efforts, actions, and education. The Board of Supervisors is comprised of local residents who volunteer to guide the activities and projects of the conservation district and district staff.

All registered voters in Knox or Lincoln counties are eligible to vote. Ballots must be received at the district office no later than Nov. 16.
