The Camden Hills Regional High School Visual and Performing Arts Department has selected senior Abby Howe as Student of the Month for September.

Immersed in the arts since her freshman year, Howe has taken a wide range of visual arts classes, including Drawing, Printmaking, Photography, Advanced Drawing and Painting, Clay 1 & 2, and Advanced Art Portfolio, dedicating additional time outside class to invest extra effort into her work. Last spring, she used her painting skills to create a large mural on the wall in the school store.

This summer she worked as an intern for ceramicist Ariela Kuh of Ank Ceramics in Lincolnville, gaining valuable practical hands-on experience,

This past summer Howe also worked on the set design for the upcoming CHRHS fall musical "Sister Act." As scenic designer, she met with the directors multiple times during the summer in order for her designs and revisions to be ready for the tech crew to begin construction promptly when the school year started. She has been a valued member of the technical theater program over the years. She was a student in Tech Theater A her sophomore year, and has worked on construction, scene painting, and running crew for multiple productions.

Howe plans to study art in college next year. Her advice to underclassmen “Make sure to remember that your own perspective and unique voice is what make your art special and not like anybody else’s. It's good to stay true to your vision because it will make you happier in the end.”
