Harbor Mitchell, eminent archaeologist, is the featured, mid-afternoon presenter Sunday, Oct. 2 at the annual Conway House Harvest Fest.

This festive fall event is free to the public and slotted from 1 to 4 p.m. It takes place on the Conway House grounds, Camden-Rockport Historical Society, Route 1. The location is just south of the Hannaford shopping center.

At 3 p.m., Mitchell plans to tell about the recent “dig,” and to show some of the artifacts retrieved from below the ground, such as pottery pieces, pipe stems, evidence of old post holes and more. He will show how history has changed the 1769 Conway House.

Exhibitors who are expected to participate during the afternoon include The Country Inn with apple pressing; demonstrators of old-fashioned crafts; shingle making; quilt making and candle making. Also offered is the opportunity to decorate pumpkin cookies for Halloween. Refreshments will be available. There may be some old-time music, as well.

The public is invited to attend this autumn event under the trees on the Conway lawns. For more information, contact crhsme@myfairpoint.net, or midcoastbarrett@yahoo.com; or call 706-6229.
