Traffic was stopped in both directions on Route 131 Friday morning, Sept. 16, following a crash involving three vehicles.

South Thomaston fire and emergency crews and the Knox County Sheriff’s Office responded to the call at the intersection of Route 131 and Westbrook Street at about 7:15 a.m., according to Knox County Chief Deputy Tim Carroll.

A Ford Explorer traveling south on 131 was turning onto Westbrook Street and turned into the path of a Nissan Versa traveling north. The vehicles struck head-on and the force of the crash pushed the Explorer into a Toyota Prius that was stopped at the stop sign at the end of Westbrook Street, Carroll said.

One person was transported to Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport with non life-threatening injuries, Carroll said.

Traffic was stopped in both directions for about 45 minutes while crews worked to clear the roadway. By 8 a.m. traffic was open to one lane and normal traffic resumed shortly thereafter.
