Barnswallow Books, 166 Russell Ave., will host a lecture, reading and conversation with this year’s writers-in-residence, Christine Hartmann and Ron Strickland, Friday, Sept. 23, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

What do romantic suspense novelist Hartmann and long-distance trail developer Strickland have in common, besides being married to each other? Certainly not backpacking, which terrifies Hartmann and not romance novels, which Strickland pooh-poohs. Yet she calls him her “Mr. Romantic”; and he served as the expert for her book set on the Pacific Crest Trail.

Everyone is invited to come be inspired by this genre-bending couple. They will read from their recent books: “Wild Within,” book one of the Wild at Heart romantic suspense series; and “Pathfinder: Blazing a New Wilderness Trail in Modern America.”
