A Belfast man died in a two-vehicle crash on Route 1 the evening of Sept. 11 near Belfast Armory.

Belfast police, fire and ambulance responded to the crash on Route 1 at 8:37 p.m. Sgt. Matt Cook of Belfast Police Department said 29-year-old Kevin Hustus was traveling north in a 2001 Saturn SL1 when his vehicle appeared to drift across the road into the path of an oncoming 2009 Saturn Vue driven by 55-year-old Deborah Brady of Rockport.

Cook said the Jaws of Life were used to remove Hustus from his vehicle.

Hustus died at the scene and Brady was taken first to Waldo County General Hospital and then airlifted by LifeFlight helicopter to Eastern Maine Medical Center to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries, Cook said.

The area of Route 1 where the crash occurred was closed for about three and a half hours while emergency personnel worked at the scene.

Cook said the crash is still under investigation.
