The fall semester of Italian Cooking and Conversation at Penobscot Language School, 28 Gay St., starts Sept. 27 for six consecutive Tuesdays, from 5 to 7 p.m. The class is suitable for those who love to cook and individuals wanting to start or improve their Italian for personal reasons or in preparation for travel.

Instructor Helena Gagliano, a native of Sicily, certified court interpreter and former owner of her own bistro, conducts the sessions, during which students prepare and enjoy regional Italian dishes such as lobster linguini, fresh gnocchi with four-cheese sauce, pizza made with fresh dough, penne primavera, lemon caper chicken, veal saltimbocca and fresh bread accompanied by a selection of rustic toppings.

Vocabulary and grammar will focus on recipe ingredients, cooking terminology, and common phrases used both in the kitchen and at the table. Cultural celebrations will be recognized and discussed. Cost for the class is $280.
