The public is invited to a free chainsaw skills workshop geared for both novices and more experienced loggers. The workshop, which will take place at the Langlais Sculpture Preserve, River Road, Cushing, Sept. 24 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., will be led by Ted Wright, who oversees the Northeast Master Logger Certification Program.

After a safety and maintenance video, Wright will demonstrate cutting techniques. Protective gear and chainsaws will be available for those wishing to partake in the demonstration. Participants can bring their own chainsaws. In addition, Wright will provide a tree felling demonstration. Participants should wear long sleeves, long pants and closed-toe (preferably steel-toe) shoes.

Refreshments will be available in the morning. Bring a bagged lunch, or purchase at neighboring store. This workshop is co-sponsored by the Midcoast Chapter of the Small Woodland Owners Association of Maine and the Georges River Land Trust. For more information and to register, call Brent West, stewardship program manager at Georges River Land Trust, at 594-5166.
