The Art Loft will offer a Paint Night Friday, Sept. 16, where participants can join with fellow creatives for an evening of painting and socializing — even if they have never painted before. Paint nights run from 6 to 8 p.m. at the downtown nonprofit community art center.

In this class, Sean Boyd, a Rockland boatbuilder and artist, will lead participants, regardless of their level of experience, in painting a beached rowboat image. Cost for the two-hour Paint Night is $35, with all supplies and snacks included.

And beginning Monday, Sept. 19, the Art Loft presents a bookbinding class with Kate Tagai. In this class, students will learn different binding techniques to make their own books. Each drop-in class will feature a different binding style, including Japanese stab binding, Coptic binding, long stitch binding and perfect binding. Cost is $15 per class, materials included.

The Art Loft, which also offers low-cost drop-in art classes, more in-depth workshops, restorative art therapy and other special events, is located at 385 Main St., Suite 9 (inside the lobby of the Thorndike Building).
