Police reported the possibility of injuries after a car slammed into the back of a UPS delivery truck Friday, Sept. 2, at 5:45 p.m. on St. George Road (Route 131) in South Thomaston.

Raymond Athearn, 86, of Rockland, was driving southbound in a Chevy sedan.

Erin Balistreri, 41, of Rockland, was parked legally in the UPS truck, which sustained minor damage to the rear driver's side.

At the time of the crash, the weather was clear and the road surface was dry. Athearn told police he could not see the UPS truck on the side of the road because the sun was in his eyes.

A witness driving behind Raymond could see the UPS truck just fine, according to Knox County Sheriff's Office. Athearn ran into the back of the truck, the press release states.

Athearn's vehicle was towed because of disabling damage to the front passenger corner.

Deputy Jeremy Joslyn responded. The crash was approximately 100 feet North of Sylvia Way in South Thomaston.

Traffic was first blocked and then slowed for some time on Route 131 as a result of the crash.
