The Rockland District Nursing Association will hold its 2016 “Fruits of Fall” bake sale during the South Thomaston Library Flea Market Saturday, Sept. 3, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tastes of the season for sale will include jams and canned goods, seasonal baked items, herb plants, Mary’s aloe plants (offshoots from Mary Waterman’s original aloe), garden produce, Marie’s Italian spaghetti sauce, and locally famous pies and whoopie pies. All proceeds benefit RDNA.

The need for RDNA nursing services continues to grow steadily, with nursing hours in February 2016 jumping 30 percent over the year before. Today, RDNA regularly sees close to 300 predominantly elderly area residents living independently in South Thomaston, Owls Head, Cushing, St. George, Warren, Union, Thomaston and Rockland.

Without federal/state funds or insurance reimbursement, RDNA relies on gifts and contributions to cover the majority of operating costs, with 90 cents of every dollar returning to the community in service, the organization said in a news release Aug. 25.
