Lewis and Florance Merrifield were guests of honor at a 50th wedding anniversary party at their home Aug. 11 hosted by their children. Lewis is the son of Fred and Doris Merrifield of South Hope and Florance is the daughter of Albert and Velma Hastings of South Hope.

The couple were married Aug. 11 at the South Hope community Church on her parents' 24th wedding anniversary and her father's 53rd birthday.

They have lived in South Hope all their married life. They built their home in 1969.

The Merrifields have two children, Mary Ann Giasson and her husband, Alan, and their daughter, Aidan, of Rockland; and Mark Merrifield and his wife, Michelle, and his children, Hilary and Eben, of Union. Mary Ann is a special ed teacher at Oceanside High School, Alan works for Boston Financial in Rockland and Aidan is a senior at Oceanside High School. Mark and Michelle are both Maine Game Wardens, Hilary is a freshman at UMO and Eben is a junior at Camden Hills Regional High School in Rockport. A special friend, Terri Tooley, of Rockport, mother of Hilary and Eben, attended with Mark and Michelle.

Guests enjoyed a buffet of sandwiches, chips, veggie platters, fruit salad and a cracker and cheese platter. A fruit-topped cake was served, along with punch and lemonade.
