The Midnight Riders will play music to boogie with old friends to Friday, Aug. 26, from 9 p.m. to midnight at The Smokestack Grill, 43 Mechanic St.

The Midnight Riders features Will Neils on lead vocals; Emmett Lalor on guitar and vocals; "The Reverend" Mike Cole on bass and vocals; and Bill Faller on drums. For this show, Jon Vickerman (ex-Rustic Overtones) will be sitting in on sax. The Riders’ Americana, old soul, funk, blues and rock repertoire include favorites from the Stones, Allmans, Band and Cream with soulful grooves by Otis Redding, Meters, Taj Mahal and King Floyd; and blues tunes by Little Walter, Johnny Winter, Freddie King, Paul Butterfield and Bob Dylan. Add in some aggressive song choices from The Dead Kennedys, Social Distortion and The Drive-By Truckers; and a song selection that also covers roots/Americana songwriters Steve Earle and Jason Isbell, as well as songs by Maine-based bands The Mallett Brothers and The Coloradas, and it will be a night to remember.
