Maine State Historian Earle Shettleworth will discuss the efforts of Maine people on the homefront to support troops overseas when he presents “The Maine Home Front in World War I” Wednesday, Sept. 21, from 10:30 a.m. to noon at Quarry Hill. The program is part of Quarry Hill’s ongoing Adventures in Living Well series and is open to adults age 50-plus. Admission is free.

Shettleworth will tell how civilians bought bonds, knitted socks and more while some 32,000 Mainers fought in Europe and elsewhere during “the war to end all wars.”

Advance registration is required. To sign up, call Quarry Hill at 921-6116 or email qhinfo@penbayhealthcare.org.
