Mid-Coast School of Technology Adult Education is enrolling students now for its fall commercial truck driver licensing program, scheduled to begin Aug. 30.

This is a Monday-through-Friday daytime program. Class A tractor trailer course runs for 12 weeks; Class B truck course runs for six weeks. Behind-the-wheel training is arranged with the instructor after the first two to three weeks of classroom training. Classroom instruction includes endorsements: hazmat, tanker and double/triples for Class A.

The school provides training on both paper and electronic logs (scheduled to be implemented in 2018). Employment opportunities abound in a field that is facing critical shortages. Many graduates have found jobs locally and with over-the-road carriers. A Class A upgrade course is available for current Class B holders. All individuals must have experience driving a standard-shift vehicle, have a valid Maine driver’s license and be 18 years of age or older.
