The Art Loft will offer three paint nights in August, opportunities to join with fellow creatives for an evening of painting and socializing — even if one has never painted before. Paint nights run from 6 to 8 p.m. at the downtown nonprofit community art center.

On Friday, Aug. 19, Karen Olson will lead a Make Your Mark evening. Participants will use a variety of materials and techniques to create a contemporary, mixed media work of art focusing on mark making. They will execute a textured, painted background; make their own collage papers; and employ them both to create their own visions.

On Friday, Aug. 26, Karen Olson will focus on Livin’ on the Edge. Participants will learn color blending and texturizing techniques to create this modern abstract landscape painting. They will use tools such as a brayer and pallet knife to develop an image with individual perspective.

On Monday, Aug. 29, Angela Anderson will assist participants in capturing a Rare Blue Lobster. She will offer step-by-step guidance through painting a beautiful rare blue lobster image, without the need for any painting experience whatsoever.

Cost for the two-hour Paint Nights is $35, with all supplies and snacks included. The Art Loft, which also offers low-cost drop-in art classes, more in-depth workshops, restorative art therapy and other special events, is located at 385 Main St., Suite 9 (inside the lobby of the Thorndike Building).
