We now have a date for the grand opening of our new shelter. Saturday, Aug. 20, is the big day. We hope you can join us in celebrating with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, tours of the new facility, live music and refreshments. The fun starts at 11 a.m. and goes until 2 p.m. We are so grateful for the wonderful support of our community for helping make our new building a reality, providing a more comfortable, healthier (temporary) home for the homeless animals in our care. We couldn't have done it without you.

While we were closed for the transition, we had the help of many foster homes that lovingly cared for some of our animals until we were able to provide them space in our new digs. Many are now available and eager to find a home. Back from foster care is sweet, shy Gianna, a beautiful black lab mix. Here is what her foster family had to say about her. "Have you always wanted a loving companion to snuggle with on those cold Maine nights? Rough day at work and need a friendly "high five" when you come home? Looking for the endearing personality of a Lab in a compact travel size? Look no further than Gianna! This beautiful ebony girl is 1 to 2 years old, only about 40 pounds and ready to join your family! She's sweet and playful and simply adores people (and she does give high fives on command).

"Due to her shy demeanor, she'd do best in a home with older children. Gianna gets along great with kitties and calm dogs. She is crate-trained, sits perfectly for medication, nail trimmings and ear cleaning and even likes rides in the car. Although she loves her walks on leash, she needs a bit of work on her manners, as she tends to get excited on the way home and pulls. If you're willing to give Gianna a forever home, then she's willing to give you her heart."  You can meet Gianna at the shelter.

Samantha is also ready to find a new home. Sadly, her owner passed and Samantha found herself at the shelter looking for a new home. While she is very comfortable in her new cat condo, she is happiest being someone's precious kitty and would like to be a part of someone's life and family once again. Samantha is a very loving, affectionate cat, around 4 years old. She has only known an indoor-only life, so would be most comfortable with a family that could provide her with that lifestyle. If you're looking for a loyal, loving companion, come meet Samantha. She could be "the one."

Wish list: Paper towels, canned dog and cat food, large black garbage bags, hand soap, laundry detergent, paper towels, toilet paper, gift certificates to Wal-Mart, Staples, Amazon and other local businesses. Thanks for your support.
