The Darling’s Ice Cream for a Cause truck will be at the Thomaston Library, 60 Main St., Aug. 11 from 3 to 5:30 p.m. Lane Construction will sponsor the ice cream truck to help raise funds for the Autism Society of Maine as part of supporting honorary construction member Brian Farnham.

In June, Brian’s mom, Heather Nelson, sent a message to Lane Construction expressing how the Route 1 Thomaston Construction Project was a joy to her autistic son. The message tugged at the hearts of Lane Construction employees, who in return made Brian an honorary construction member.

According to TJ Coyle, project engineer for Lane Construction, “Upon meeting Brian and his family, Lane Construction wanted to do more to support our honorary construction member. One of Lane’s core values is Care for People. Not only is it care for our people, but care for the communities in which we live and work. When a situation presents itself where we can make someone’s day a little brighter, we jump at the chance. While working on projects in communities, we become ingrained with the communities and become part of people’s everyday life. We are there when people wake up to go to work, and we are there when people come home at night. At Lane, we strive to bring quality work as well as show our care for the community.”

The Darling’s Ice Cream for a Cause truck offers free ice cream in exchange for voluntary donations to help raise money for charities and causes in communities. One hundred percent of the donations will go directly to the charity selected by Brian’s family, which is the Autism Society of Maine. Lane Construction has agreed to contribute a matching donation up to $2,500 to support the cause.

According to Heather Nelson, “We love the Autism Society of Maine, because all of their donations stay right here in Maine to help Maine families. ASM provides family retreat weekends, a day camp for children on the spectrum, a lending library, and they provide autism information specialists to do everything from attending school meetings with families to providing educational workshops for the community. Lane Construction has already done so much for our family, merely by recognizing and honoring our son. We are humbled and blown away that they have offered to hold this fundraiser. We are honored to help, in our little way, to give back to a meaningful organization like ASM.”
