Necessary Music Productions has put together a songwriters showcase and Americana concert for Friday night, Aug. 12, at The Speakeasy located under the Eclipse Restaurant, 2 Park Drive. Tickets will be sliding scale $5 to $10 at the doors, which open at 8 p.m. with music beginning at 8:30 p.m.

The evening will feature a variety of talented folks from Knox County, two of whom are just back visiting for a little while and won't be performing much elsewhere in the Midcoast. The acoustic evening of songs and songwriters will showcase Mikey Cole, Mallory McAvoy, Andre Lascoutx, Will Neils & Emmett Lalor and Friends.

Cole has been playing his self-reflective acoustic Americana/folk hybrid for a few years and enjoys a loyal following from his many appearances at the open mics of Knox County. His style is influenced by many including Elvis Costello, Nick Lowe and Steve Earle.

Knox County native McAvoy writes songs that chart the dark waters surrounding honesty and integrity in personal relationships; and the potential for improvement in those and other pursuits. She has resided in New Orleans for a couple years and is back for just a short while.

Knox County native Lascoutx has lived in Nashville for more than a decade and has released one CD, with another in the works now. He writes with a strong commitment to the clear and honest styles of songwriters such as JJ Cale, Townes Van Zandt, Guy Clark and Lucinda Williams.

Neils and Lalor perform a wide range of acoustic numbers including blues and country from the 1920s forward; soul from the 1950s & ‘60s; and current songwriters Jason Isbell, Mallett Brothers and The Coloradas. While Lalor holds down all guitar responsibilities, both men sing  and will be joined by some music friends for this evening’s performance.

All money will go completely to the musicians. Everyone is invited to come to downtown Rockland for another festival weekend and enjoy some great homegrown music.
